Meloyear is an online music game built around a single question: which year was the song you are hearing released? You do not need to know the artist or the title — sensing the era from the sound is enough. The arrangement, the drum sound and the mix usually give away the decade, and from there it is only a few years either way.
It is free and runs in the browser, on a phone or a computer — nothing to install. You can try three songs without an account on this page.
One button starts a match against bots at three difficulty levels. If you would rather play with people, open a room and send them its code or invite link — they join from the browser. There is always an open room to sit down in.
Five badges are there to collect, several of them in Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond record levels; they show up on your profile and on your card during a game. The music library keeps growing, and songs follow the age of the players in the room so everyone stands a chance.
Only a short, official preview clip plays from each song, so you never sit through a whole track — the game is about recognition, not patience. The music library is shared, but once you know the game you can build your own deck: songs can come from a public YouTube or Spotify list, and you approve the years one by one so a bad date cannot spoil anyone’s match.
